7 Weeks Old - November 18th
-
This week we cut out the rice cereal entirely
and have them on chow and water. They are definitely missing the
rice cereal, but I guess that is part of growing up.
-
They crave attention in every waking moment and love
to play and cuddle. All three of them are very well socialized and
have become very comfortable roaming the house on their own.
-
As you can see from the growth chart cutting out the
rice cereal did not hurt them any, all three of them gained allot of
weight and based on their energy and appearance are very healthy.
6 Weeks Old - November 11th

The Puppies continue to flourish, everyday getting
bigger, bolder and braver. Ava is less and less involved and most of
the time she spends with them her focus is on playing with them and
grooming them.
-
We introduced them to the brush this week, their
coats are still to short to really benefit from a brushing but I
have read that the earlier it is introduced the more cooperative
they are at grooming time in the future.
-
I am adding less and less rice cereal into their
food and working towards getting them 100% on dry kibble (IAMS Small
Dog Puppy Chow) and water in the next week or so.

You may want to consider Paper training your pup.

The puppies are now almost completely weaned and
although they do still Nurse from Ava occasionally they see her more
as a play buddy than a milk truck now. All three of them try and
tackle her whenever she is in the Puppy Pen with them.
-
They all put on a lot of weight this week and I
think that is primarily because they are eating so well. They all
have great appetites and are doing fantastic with the food.
-
They are enjoying the rice cereal and all seem to be
doing very well on it. Last week I started making the rice cereal
with a very diluted mixture of water and carnation milk and have
been gradually increasing the amount of milk in the mix. They are
taking great to the milk and none of them have had sick tummies as a
result.
-
All 6 little ears look as though they are perking up
and I am increasingly convinced that they will all have the look of
a Yorkshire Terrier.
-
They are very brave and playful in their puppy pen
and chase around various toys and tackle each other. They are
interested in learning about the world outside of their puppy pen
but extremely cautious when we first take them out. They are getting
more courageous with each excursion and I think by next week I will
be taking them down to the basement so they can really run around.
-
The toilet training is going great, they all are
going to the very back of the bathroom area to do a number 2. There
is still the occasional number 1 deposited in the play area but more
and more they are going to the bathroom area.
-
Their nails are growing at a rate and need to be cut
a couple of times a week primarily for the protection of the mother.
-
They all now have some teeth, Louie I think has a
pretty much all of his puppy teeth and he has started to crunch on
dry kibble.
4 Weeks Old - October 28th
-
On Tuesday night we introduced the puppies to "Puppy
Formula" and all three of them quickly caught onto the lapping thing
and I think they like how easy it is and Mom likes the break.
-
On Saturday we introduced them to "solids". They
attacked some rice cereal
-
On Sunday we started them on some Puppy Kibble that
had been soaked in water and smashed. Although they did not get as
excited about this as the rice cereal they did eat some. I plan to
alternate between the chow and the rice cereal because although they
prefer the rice cereal, I know the chow has the nutrients they need.
-
They still feed from Ava a significant amount of the
time and I suspect that she is still the primary source of
nutrition.
-
This week we also moved them into a "Misty Box".
This is a special puppy pen that encourages the puppy to recognize
defined areas for eating, sleeping and playing and then a distinctly
different area for going to the washroom. This training is the first
step towards potty training and helps to teach them that they can
not go to the washroom anywhere and helps them to develop some
bladder control. This is going very well. We introduced them to the
box on Wed and already all three of them have started heading in the
right direction. Gracie, the little girl., definitely makes the
effort to go the furthest. But the boys pretty consistently turn the
corner and do what they have to do where they should do it. I have a
picture of our misty box below and you can
